A Childhood Memory
When one of our unanimously favorite clients told us of the stone cottages and buildings the dotted the banks of the Mississippi in her child hood home we couldn’t help but be inspired. We had salvaged a civil war armory miles away and slated the material for use on the clients estate. Having listened to her description and stories of the buildings erected from the same stone, undoubtedly during the very same era the armory was created, we wanted to make something that would be a viable, useful albeit indulgent space that would wrap her in the magical memories of those little cottages along the river.Near the stables housing their beloved horses, we built a small stone cottage entirely out of reclaimed materials. We added a huge fireplace to the unheated one room cottage and furnished it with a twelve foot harvest table, fifteen foot sofa from a Dutch castle and a breathtaking chandelier. With fall just around the corner, huge family dinners and lots of wine are sure to be enjoyed, and more memories to be made…
